Force Unit Conversion Chart
Force conversion calculator supports multiple force units including newtons, pounds force, dynes, and more. Convert between basic force units, imperial units, microscopic units, and specialized force measurements with high precision.
Common force unit conversions: newtons to pounds force (N to lbf), kilonewtons to newtons (kN to N), dynes to newtons (dyn to N), gram force to newtons (gf to N), kilogram force to newtons (kgf to N), pounds force to newtons (lbf to N), ounce force to newtons (ozf to N). Principles & formula sources
Force in SI is newton (N) = kg·m/s². Other units (lbf, dyn, kgf) map back to N via mass/length/time definitions; kgf additionally uses a conventional standard gravity.
We convert via N and apply ratio conversion to keep dimensions consistent.
Formula & example
Formula: value_target = value_source * (source_to_N) / (target_to_N).
Example: 1 lbf ≈ 4.44822 N; 100 N ≈ 10.197 kgf.
Common errors & notes
- kg is mass, kgf is force—don’t mix them.
- kgf uses standard gravity; local gravity may differ slightly.
- Check prefixes (kN, mN) to avoid order-of-magnitude mistakes.
Practical use cases
Force conversions appear in safety checks, material testing, and biomechanics where N, lbf, and kgf are mixed.
Use force units for loads and mass units for inertia to avoid category mistakes.
