Principles & formula sources
Mass conversion is linear. SI uses kilogram (kg); g and mg are decimal subdivisions. lb/oz are fixed by international agreement relative to kg.
We convert via kg: target = source × (source→kg) ÷ (target→kg). For u, factors follow recommended constants.
Formula & example
Formula: value_target = value_source * (source_to_kg) / (target_to_kg).
Example: 5 lb = 2.26796 kg; 250 g = 0.25 kg.
Common errors & notes
- Mass vs force: kg is not N. Use the force converter for weight.
- Prefixes: mg/g/kg differ by 10³—double-check the prefix.
- Very small values may need higher display precision.
